How long is Andy Dalton out? Injury timeline, return date, latest updates on Cowboys quarterback

  • NFL Cowboys Eagles v Cowboys Eagles American Football

The Cowboys are surely hoping Andy Dalton is back sooner rather than later, which isn't a sentence one would've expected to read before the 2020 season.

With Dak Prescott already out for the year, Dalton's concussion took on added significance in Week 7 because it meant Dallas was down to Ben DiNucci and Garrett Gilbert at quarterback. The Cowboys are already at risk of falling further behind in the brutal NFC East, and even though Dalton was playing poorly, his return is likely Dallas' best in-house option to work its way back into contention this season.

Here's what you need to know about Dalton's injury and when he might return for the Cowboys:

How long will Andy Dalton be out?

There's no way of knowing for sure how long Dalton's concussion will keep him out, because every concussion's recovery period seems to be a bit different. Beaumont Health Services writes that most concussions resolve over the course of one-to-two weeks, with the average time being 10 days. Dalton has[......]

Did Rams copy Dolphins' hook-and-lateral play for 2-point conversion against Packers?

  • NFL Rams Dolphins Packers 夜网论坛 American Football

The Rams used a curious play to put themselves just a touchdown behind the Packers in their NFL playoffs divisional round meeting Saturday.

After running back Cam Akers scored a TD out of the Wildcat formation, coach Sean McVay called a nifty hook-and-lateral for the 2-point conversion to make the score 25-18, Green Bay, with 1:41 remaining in the third quarter:

It's not too often you see a hook-and-lateral in the NFL, especially on a non-game-ending play.

Unless you're the Dolphins, that is.

Twitter was quick to point out Los Angeles' play was suspiciously similar to a play Brian Flores and Miami used in the team's 22-12 win over the Patriots in Week 15. Here's a side-by-side comparison of the two plays, courtesy of Sporting News' Jordan Heck:

Trey Lance mock draft: 49ers, Patriots among best 2021 NFL Draft fits for NDSU quarterback

  • NFL American Football Patriots Broncos Vikings 49ers Washington Football Team Bears Panthers

Where will North Dakota State's Trey Lance be selected among the top quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft? That's one of most the compelling first-round questions on the board.

With Clemson's Trevor Lawrence set to go to the Jaguars at No. 1 overall and BYU's Zach Wilson starting to settle in as the consensus No. 2 QB prospect, Lance has the potential to go anytime starting at No. 4 overall and sometime before No. 20 overall. It would surprise no one if Lance is the third QB taken. It also would surprise no one if he is the fifth QB taken.

Nets forward Paul Pierce out 2-4 weeks with broken right hand

  • NBA

Brooklyn Nets forward Paul Pierce is out 2-4 weeks with a non-displaced fracture of the third metacarpal of the right hand, general manager Billy King announced.

Pierce suffered the injury in the first half of the Nets' Friday loss to t夜网论坛he Houston Rockets. So far this season, Pierce is averaging 12.4 points and 4.8 rebounds, despite taking a far less aggressive approach on offense than he has in the past.

Pierce isn't the first significant Nets player to go down. A number of injuries have hurt the Nets' chances of gaining chemistry within a new collection of stars. Aside from Pierce, Deron Williams, Brook Lopez, Andrei Kirilenko and Jason Terry have all missed time with injury.

The injuries are taking a toll on the Nets, who stand 5-12 on the season thus far, not exactly what was expected in Brooklyn when Pierce and Kevin Garnett were brought in to join a roster of All-Stars.

Miami coach waiting to determine Wade's status

  • NBA

INDIANAPOLIS — Miami coach Erik Spoelstra will wait to decide whether to play guard Dwyane Wade against the Pacers on Tuesday night.

Spoelstra spoke after the team's shootaround at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. He says he expects everyone to be ready for the showdown between the two-time defending NBA champs and the team with the NBA's best record this season (18-3).

He'll wait until about 45 minutes before tip-off to "put everything in ink."

Wade has missed six games with the 夜网论坛Heat (16-5) this season in an effort to protect his knees.

Pacers coach Frank Vogel wouldn't say when forward Danny Granger would return. Granger has been sidelined this season with a strained calf.

NAIA player can keep $20K won on half-court shot at OKC Thunder game

  • NBA

OKLAHOMA CITY— A college basketball player who won $20,000 by hitting a half-court shot during an Oklahoma City Thunder game can keep the money for use as a scholarship, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Tuesday.

Cameron Rodriguez nailed the promotional shot Nov. 18 during the Thunder's home game against the Denver Nuggets. The jubilation was short-lived after the NAIA informed Rodriguez that if he kept the money, he would lose his amateur status at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan.

The college appealed, and the NAIA said Tuesday that Rodriguez could use the half-court winnings as scholarship money.

"We're pleased with the decision from the membership and specifically the (national eligibility committee) that allows Cameron to keep his winnings to use toward his education," said Jim Carr, NAIA president and CEO.

The NAIA said the decision to use the prize as scholarship money was a joint recommendation by Rodriguez and the Southwestern C夜网论坛ollege athletic department, which was supported by the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Rodriguez, a sophomore, must maintain his amateur status throughout the remainder of his eligibility. He's said that he would have forfeited the money before giving up his college eligibility.

Eight lucky fans have hit the half-court shot, sponsored by a local bank, in 231 home games since the promotion started, according to the Thunder.

Rajon Rondo injury update: Celtics PG expects to return before All-Star break

  • NBA

Rajon Rondo won't play in the NBA All-Star game, but he might be playing in the NBA by the time the All-Star game rolls around — Feb. 16.

The Boston Celtics point guard, who's rehabbing a surgically repaired right knee, doesn't know exactly when he'll be back. But he does expect to return soon, Baxter Holmes of the Boston Globe reports.

The inability to play is obviously frustrating for Rondo, the franchise player and most important piece of a Boston team that's fourth place in a bad Atlantic Division.

"Just not playing," Rondo told the Globe. "I don’t even like to watch the game anymore. It’s frustr夜网论坛ating.

"You see things that you just can’t help."

Rondo still could serve a stint with the Maine Red Claws, the Celtics' D-League affiliate, before a return to the NBA. But he said he's unsure if that's the route he'll take.

A year after trade rumors, all is well for LaMarcus Aldridge in Portland

  • NBA

NEW ORLEANS — There was talk, at this time last year, that Portland star LaMarcus Aldridge would rather be elsewhere.

Aldridge, 27 at the time, was an All-Star, in the heart of his prime years. The Blazers, though, were a young team still trying to figure out how to remain competitive in the Western Conference.

That was the basis for rumors of his unhappiness—the team was starting over, but Aldridge was already fairly advanced in his career. Aldridge was, indeed, disappointed with a 13-game losing streak to close the season, one that knocked Portland out of any hope of a playoff spot, but truth is, he was never angling to leave the team.

“He wasn’t happy with the fact that we didn’t make the playoffs and we lost 13 in a row, and nobody was,” Blazers coach Terry Stotts said. “He is a competitor and wanted to be part of a winning environment. That was his only thing.

"If you go back, anytime he was quoted, that is what he said. A lot of it is speculation and there were never any comments from him about being traded. He just—the season ended with a 13-game losing streak, and no one is going to feel good about that.”

Aldridge is feeling much better these days, with Portland coming out of the All-Star break at 36-17, tied for the West’s third-best record and on pace for the Blazers’ best finish in 15 years. He a[......]
