NFL rumors: Packers could pounce on Vikings turmoil by signing Pro Bowl defender

  • NFL Packers Vikings American Football

The Vikings entered the 2020 offseason facing an array of tough questions about their roster, and so far, they've yet to show they can form a better group than the one that was blasted in the NFC divisional round by the 49ers in January.

Minnesota traded Stefon Diggs, entered a contract dispute with Dalvin Cook and remains financially committed to the ever-underwhelming Kirk Cousins at quarterback. Now, the Vikings could watch a 2019 Pro Bowl players leave for the rival Packers.

Green Bay has reportedly emerged as a lead candidate to sign free-agent edge rusher Everson Griffen, who recorded eight sacks last year and could bolster an already formidable front-seven at Lambeau Field.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said this past weekend that he has not heard anything about Griffen resuming contract discussions with Minnesota.

"I don't know," Zimmer told reporters. "He texted me the other day telling me congratulations (on the contract extension) and things like that. I'd love to have him back, he's always been one of my guys, so if that happens, that'd be great, but I don't know where that is right now."

Bills' Josh Allen is latest NFL quarterback to embrace classic lines from 'The Office'

  • NFL Bills 49ers 49ers v Bills American Football

Late in Josh Allen's dominance on Week 13's "Monday Night Football," Rainn Wilson (who played Dwight Schrute on "The Office") gave him a shoutout.

"(Josh Allen) is my second favorite quarterback," Wilson tweeted.

The Bills' QB replied soon after beating the 49ers, putting his own spin on a classic line from "The Office": "Assistant favorite Qb, or assistant to your favorite Qb?"

In "The Office," Schrute decides to embrace his assistant to the regional manager role by calling himself the "assistant regional manager," and Allen played into that fun. It makes sense that Allen was in good spirits, because he'd just completed 32-of-40 passes for 375 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-24 win for Buffalo (9-3) over San Francisco (5-7). The 32 completions were one off a career-high, and the four touchdowns tied a single-game career-best.

The Madden 22 cover athlete may have been leaked by GameStop

The "Madden 22" cover athlete may have been leaked.

A GameStop located in a Pennsylvania mall has a sign up that encourages people to reserve their copy of the game. On the sign is the apparent cover of the upcoming game, featuring Titans running back Derrick Henry. The cover is in the same style as the updated look from "Madden 21."

The sign was located by TikTok user @jordanr03.

If Henry is the athlete chosen, he'd be a logical choice. I夜网论坛 explained why in my predictions for the next athlete. Henry was my No. 2 candidate behind MVP winner Aaron Rodgers. But "Madden" has already gone with a quarterback in three of the past four years, so moving on from that position makes total sense.

Henry is the best candidate at his position, considering that he's coming off a 2,000-yard season, and an Offensive Player of the Year award. He'll also be the first active running back on the cover since Peyton Hillis in "Madden 12."

  • NFL American Football

Bigger and better than ever (maybe), it's the 2021 NFL schedule.

Thanks to an extra week installed in this year's schedule, there are now 272 regular-season games coming your way beginning in September.

With games heading back to London, there are also a number of long, long football Sundays coming your way: For example, the Jets and Falcons will be in London in Week 5 for a 9:30 a.m. ET kickoff, meaning that, from start to finish, there could be 13 hours of football. Get yourself a comfortable couch.

Week 15 features five games that are not yet scheduled, and games could be flexed into late-season Monday night matchups thanks to a scheduling quirk the NFL is implementing this year.

All 272 games, with kickoff times and TV channels (where applicable), are below.

In the U.S., national and regional games can also be streamed on fuboTV (free trial). In Canada, all games can be streamed on DAZN (free trial).

Dirk Nowitzki passes Jerry West on NBA all-time scoring list

  • NBA

DALLAS — Dirk Nowitzki has passed Jerry West for 16th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list.

Nowitzki made consecutive 3-pointers Tuesday night against Washington to reach 25,194 points, two ahead of West.

The 11-time All-Star and 2007 MVP was struggling from the field before a loose ball bounced to him above the key. He grabbed it, turned and hit a shot to get within a point of West's record.

On Dallas' next possession, Gal Mekel passed to Nowitzki a few feet left of the previous spot, and Nowitzki pulled up and hit another from long range. The bucket that put him ahead 夜网论坛of West gave him 16 points for the game.

Reggie Miller is 15th on the scoring list with 25,279 points.

Clippers owner Donald Sterling faces lifetime ban, $2.5 million fine

  • NBA

NBA commissioner Adam Silver promised to provide a thorough and accurate judgment on allegations that Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling made racist remarks in an audio recording obtained by TMZ.com.

Silver announced that Sterling will face a lifetime ban and $2.5 million fine, the maximum amount allowed. There were few who questioned that the rhetoric in the audio was demeaning and racist. The only question that gained any traction was related to whether the voice on the tape was indeed Sterling's.

The NBA found that the voice was Sterling's and responded accordingly, enacting an immediate lifetime ban and removing Sterling from all Clippers and NBA activities. Silver also urged the board of governors to force a sale of them, and made clear he will do everything he can to ensure that happens.

"Accordingly, effective immediately, I am banning Mr. Sterling for life from any association with the Clippers organization or the NBA," Silver said. "Mr. Sterling may not attend any NBA games or practices. He may not be pr夜网论坛esent at any Clippers facility, and he may not participate in any business or player personnel decisions involving the team."

NBA Playoffs roundup: Wizards, Cavs sweep into second round

The Wizards didn't just win their series against the Raptors. The Wizards didn't just sweep the Raptors. The Wizards made a statement against the Raptors.

The effort was led not only by Washington's talented young backcourt of John Wall (14 points, 10 assists) and Bradley Beal (23 points), but also future Hall of Famer Paul Pierce, who has provided clutch scoring as well as veteran leadership.

Washington's history in the NBA playoffs hasn't been all that stellar since the franchise made it to consecutive NBA Finals in the late 70s, as Sunday's win marked just the sixth playoff series victory since the team's 1978 NBA title. The Wizards now await the winner of the Hawks-Nets series that Atlanta currently leads 2-1.

Also sweeping Sunday were the Cavaliers, while the Mavericks stayed alive with a win over Houston.

How everyone can win if Timberwolves buy out Anthony Bennett

  • NBA

Anthony Bennett was the NBA Draft’s No. 1 pick all of two years ago. That is what makes it shocking that the Timberwolves, his second team, are negotiating a buyout of his contract, according to Yahoo Sports.

Minnesota faces a difficult circumstance because it is carrying 16 players with guaranteed contracts (along with three on partially or non-guaranteed deals), and NBA franchises are only allowed to have 15 players on roster when the regular season starts. The Timberwolves have a frontcourt rotation loaded with veterans such as Kevin Garnett and Nikola Pekovic to young talents Gorgui Dieng and this year’s top pick, Karl-Anthony Towns. Despite his untapped potential, Bennett would have languished on the bench all season.

A buyout became the best option most likely because the T-wolves could not find a suitor able to take on his contract or willing to send back non-guaranteed salaries. The process is unusual for a player as young and as recently-hyped as Bennett, and that adds a few wrinkles to the proceedings.

A buyout allows a team and player to agree to modify the player’s salary contingent on the player passing through waivers. The team will pay less or spread the payments out in exchange for giving the player freedom — unless he is claimed by another team under his current co夜网论坛ntract’s terms. Kobe Bryant took over Lakers practice after Nick Young talked trash

  • NBA Basketball

Kobe Bryant was practicing Sunday for the first time in almost two weeks, and he came back having to listen to some teammates talk trash.

"He was shooting in peoples' faces, they'd foul him for an 'and-one' … turnaround right, turnaround left, talking trash," Metta World Peace said, via the Los Angeles Times . "Somebody decided to talk to Kobe. That was the wrong thing to do."

The Times notes that Nick "Swaggy P" Young and Lou Williams were the trash-talking offenders. Rookie Larry Nance Jr. also observed the trash talking and realized it's not something his teammates should do.

“We, the white team, won the first game … and then somebody said something to Kobe,” Nance said, via NBA.com. “Four 3s later, you can see the score now — (purple) team won. … I think we’ve learned from that mistake: Don’t poke the bear.”

Bryant suffered a lower-leg contusion in a preseason game earlier this month, but his practice session has the team optimistic about his return. Coach Byron Scott seemed pleased with what he saw and it looks like Bryant will be ready to play Wednesday's opener against Minnesota.

Although the Raptors came back from a 17-point deficit, George didn’t play scared, shooting 11 for 19 from the field and 5 for 11 from 3-point range to go with eight rebounds and eight assists. He passed to a wide-open Solomon Hill on the game's final play. Hill's 3-point attempt went in, but the ball left his hand just after time expired.
