New Wrigley Field bleachers set to make debut

Baseball Cubs fans can get a first look at the new-look Wrigley Field outfield bleachers, via renderings released Monday by the team and then in person next Monday when the seating areas are scheduled to open. The renderings of the new "Budweiser Bleachers" show new patio-type sections in left and right fields called the “Well” and the “Porch.” MORE: Classic photos of Wrigley FieldThe reopened bleachers will, according to the team, include "new group spaces, improved concessions and additional room for fans to socialize and watch the game." Via the Chicago Tribune , "The Cubs took the old saying, 'If you can’t beat 'em, join 'em,' to another level in their long-standing battle with rooftop owners. Not only did Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts beat them by getting everything he asked for from the city in terms of signage and video boards, he joined them in bringing the full-metal rooftop experience to the bleachers."In addition to general-admission seating in the bleachers, the team says "several new spaces are available that provide a fun atmosphere, additional amenities and space for groups of various sizes." Tickets for the group sections, the Tribune reported, will cost $22-$85 in the Well, which is in front of the front row of the left-field bleachers, and $52- $115 for the Porch, which is under the left-field video board. A right-field "Porch" under the right-field video board will

open in June.Monday's opening is scheduled to coincide with Cubs Charities' Pink Out at the first home game after Mother's Day. Each fan in the bleachers that day will receive a "Pink Out" T-shirt to promote breast cancer prevention/awareness and "celebrate moms and women everywhere who are survivors."Of course, the construction at Wrigley hasn't been without its hiccups, notably opening day this season when the combination of ballpark beer and regrettable restroom issues caused fans huge problems. If construction continues on schedule, the right-field bleachers will open June 11. Work will continue throughout May and June as the team finishes the new spaces and additional amenities. The bleachers project is scheduled to be finished in early July. The team will host a celebratory event for guests in the Budweiser Bleachers on July 3.
