Baseball Tigers ace Justin Verlander next week will undergo a third MRI exam on his arm, manager Brad Ausmus told reporters Thursday (via MLive.com), and results will determine when he might return to the team's rotation.#Tigers will wait until next week's MRI to establish revised timeline for Justin Verlander. He will need time to rebuild arm strength.— Jon Morosi (@jonmorosi) May 1, 2015The right-hander and the team hope the exam — in Chicago next week when the team visits the White Sox for a three-game series — will determine if there's any sign of inflammation in the triceps area. "What they're looking for is the fluid in the area where the problem was," Ausmus said. "Because in this area, you may feel pain-free and not realize there's still fluid in the area until you get to that last step."The MRI exam will be Verlander's third in less than three weeks. He underwent one April 16, a day after needing to cut short a simulated game in Pittsburgh. He underwent another April 24 that showed improvement, but fluid continued to be visible. Even if next week's exam shows no fluid or inflammation, Verlander still would ha

ve to restart the throwing program that was shut down earlier in April. If Justin Verlander is fully cleared next week -- and then needs a "full spring training," so to speak -- he'd be looking at a June return.— Jon Morosi (@jonmorosi) May 1, 2015For the second time in three days, Verlander threw a very light toss Thursday and reported no discomfort."It's extremely light toss," Ausmus said. "If he had a kid, it's like he's playing catch with his 5-year-old kid."Barring a setback, Verlander is expected to continue to throw lightly on a daily basis leading up to next week's MRI.
